Summary
Art Village Osaki is a mixed-use complex of office and residential buildings adjoining Osaki Station on the Yamanote Line in central Tokyo, where five works by Japanese and international artists are installed. Taking advantage of a site directly beside the railway, several of the works were positioned to be seen not only from within the grounds but also from passing Yamanote Line trains. Inges Idee’s humorous sculpture in particular – a dwarf fifteen metres tall whose bright red cap reaches into the sky – caught the attention of commuters and became widely talked about. The project also actively commissioned artists working with advanced technology, including interactive pieces that respond to human movement such as Nosy by Christian Moeller and Duality by Joachim Sauter.
