offsociety inc. specialises in contemporary art. Our work spans the whole field: art museum planning, the development and operational planning of arts and cultural facilities, the planning and curation of exhibitions and art projects, public art planning, and communications and PR for the arts. Drawing on knowledge and experience in both contemporary art and architecture, we produce, direct and curate projects, select artists and works, and handle publicity on completion - working comprehensively so that a project delivers the full effect it is capable of.
Taste in art differs greatly from person to person, and it is often assumed that there is no clear measure of value. We believe otherwise: that outstanding art can move a great many people and become a driving force for their imagination and creative action, and that at the same time it holds the possibility of bringing into being - or making us notice - something new that did not exist in society before. "Do not set out to make it; let it emerge." These words matter to us whenever we consider a project, wherever it is and whatever it comes from, standing as we do at one point in a long history. Our role, as we see it, is to understand fully the particular background and character of each project, to examine it again and again, and - by pursuing what is genuinely good rather than what merely looks good - to make it a project that brings something new into being for individual people, for a region and for society.
The name offsociety expresses our stance: looking at society neither from entirely outside it nor from within it, but from a little way apart. We do not think a project capable of moving a great many people will come from following the received ideas held by society - or by ourselves. Looking with a clear eye at what a society or a place genuinely needs, and thinking it through, is for us the starting point for creating values that have an impact on society, and feelings people have not experienced before.
offsociety inc. specialises in contemporary art. We work across the planning and curation of exhibitions and art projects, the production and direction of art museums and arts and cultural facilities, and public art planning - from initial concept through to delivery and publicity.
