Summary

RED ROOM is an art lounge held for two days once every two months, when a “red room” appears in the 1929 stone entrance hall of YCC Yokohama Creativecity Center. As the name suggests, everything from the lighting to the interior is built around the theme of red, and drinks including alcohol are served from a bar counter. The lighting and the red room itself are artworks made by Kyota Takahashi and Reiko Kawaguchi, the artists known for their light works at Yokohama’s annual Smart Illumination festival; the result is a lounge event in which historic architecture, art, music and performance come together. The first (July) and second (October) editions featured a building illumination and the artwork of the red room by Takahashi and Kawaguchi, performances by two drag queens, Madame Red and Red Girl, new music composed for RED ROOM and a DJ set by LaLa (Toru Yamanaka), a musician who travels through time and space, and dramaturgy by the essayist Ame Deguchi.
