The renewal of the displays and spaces at JICA Yokohama (formally the Yokohama Center of the Japan International Cooperation Agency), located in Yokohama’s Minato Mirai district. JICA Yokohama houses the Japanese Overseas Migration Museum, which tells the history of Japanese emigration and the present-day lives of emigrants and Nikkei communities, and runs a wide range of programmes covering international cooperation, regional partnership, support for emigrants and Nikkei communities, and the SDGs. The renewal was realised with the participation of artists closely connected to JICA’s work – among them a Brazilian-Japanese contemporary artist and an artist who had served with the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers – together with illustrators and architects who produced displays and works on the themes of JICA’s activities and history. The result includes artworks on the history of overseas migration, displays that make learning about international cooperation enjoyable, and participatory works: a distinctive presentation whose theme is coming to know international cooperation and Nikkei society while enjoying it and taking it in at ease. The artworks and displays created through this renewal were made specifically for JICA Yokohama and can be seen nowhere else.
