Research and exchange workshops carried out at the outset of, and during, the planning of what is now Arts Towada and the Towada Art Center. Between 2003 and 2007 artists were invited to lead seven workshops in total. More than three thousand residents took part over the course of the programme, from children to older people. Each workshop included a survey and a discussion, so that participants’ responses to experiencing art fed directly into the plan – the method by which the Arts Towada and Towada Art Center plan was developed.
