Summary
An art project for a large-scale commercial and residential development in central Beijing, some eight kilometres north of the Forbidden City. This proposal by the Berlin-based collective Inges Idee was conceived for the approach leading from Beijing’s ring road to the entrance of the commercial complex. Standing on two legs roughly seventeen metres high, the work guides people from the main road towards the entrance while expressing the powerful “stride” of a rapidly developing China. The legs carry no torso: the piece draws on our tendency to imagine and perceive a body above them even where none exists.
