Summary
The fifth edition of YCC Temporary, presenting the young artist Jun Kitazawa. Foreign residents of Yokohama were invited to join the project as “Neighbors”, giving form to the scenes and daily routines of the countries they are connected to; by gathering the foreign cultures already present in the city, the project transformed the interior of YCC into Neighbor’s Land. More than ten nationalities took part, realising the work through repeated meetings and discussions with the artist. The Neighbors were involved not only in building the space but in running it and staging events during the exhibition. The result was laid out like a small city of people, objects and events, where visitors could learn about and experience the cultures, daily lives and customs of other countries: booths built from each participant’s memories of life in their home country, alongside craft classes, language classes, cookery classes, food and drink from each country, and sales of goods.
